Our commitment to responsibility
Raahe Guides Association operates responsibly with respect to the environment, cultural heritage, and people. Our guided tours are open to everyone regardless of age, gender, background, religion, disabilities, or other personal characteristics. Our goal is to make participation possible for all.
Our operations are based on equality and accessibility. Each year, we offer both free and affordable guided tours so that as many people as possible can participate regardless of their financial situation. Our free tours are organized in cooperation with the City of Raahe and the Raahe Parish. At the moment most of the free tours are in Finnish. All our tours are suitable for both children and adults. Our walking tours in the Old Town Raahe are accessible to wheelchair users with the assistance of a companion.
We also offer customized tours upon request, which can be tailored to meet the specific needs of the customer. Additional information about the accessibility of our tours is available through our guide booking service.
We respect both the environment and local residents. We recommend guided walking tours as the primary option for our customers booking a tour, as they are environmentally friendly. Instead of visiting sensitive natural areas, our tours focus on the city and historically significant sites, such as the cultural landscape of the Old Town Raahe. Visits to private yards are arranged based on pre-agreed schedules and clear guidelines: we do not disturb the residents, and we do not touch the plants or objects in the yards.
In museums and other historical buildings, we act respectfully and instruct our customers to behave responsibly — objects are not to be touched without explicit permission, flash photography is prohibited, and eating and drinking are avoided. Our aim is to minimize wear and tear and to preserve these sites for future generations.
We promote local cultural heritage by presenting Raahe’s history and stories from its golden age in the 19th century — sometimes even dressed in period costumes.
Our activities are based on cooperation, knowledge sharing, and respectful interaction. As a sign of our commitment to responsibility, our association was awarded the Good Travel Seal certification in April 2025. We have also begun the Sustainable Travel Finland program in collaboration with other local stakeholders and the STORe project led by Raahe Region Development.
